Stanwood-Camano Area Foundation Transitions to New Location, Director
Changes are happening at the Stanwood-Camano Area Foundation. The most visible change is that their office has moved into a community “hub” created at the location of the former Velo Sport Bicycle Shop in Viking Village in Stanwood. “We decided to remodel the space into three offices and invite community organizations to be next door to each other,” explained Viking Village manager and Foundation Board Member Bob Cole. He added that discussions are under way with two other community groups to join the Foundation at their new location. He went on to say, “The Foundation has served as the focal point for many community activities, including the Rotary Freedom Park and the YMCA. It seemed only natural for them to be the first organization in this new community hub.”
Another change is a new Executive Director. Long time Executive Director Theresa Metzger has moved into a new role on the Board of Directors. “Under Theresa’s leadership as Executive Director, the Foundation transitioned from a scholarship focused organization to a much greater resource for our community,” said Foundation President Oisteen Boge. “Theresa has worked with the Board to develop more community grants and endowments, along with enabling the Foundation to act as the fiscal sponsor for several key community initiatives. We appreciate all she has done to strengthen and develop the Foundation.”
New Executive Director, Tracy Ulrich, brings an extensive background of working with non-profits and businesses in the Stanwood Camano area. She is a current Board Member of the Stanwood Camano Food Bank and is the long time coordinator of their Christmas House. Additionally, she has been an active volunteer in the School District. “I know the Foundation will be in excellent hands and am thrilled to have Tracy step in to take on the next phase of the Foundation’s evolution,” stated Metzger. “I can now focus on efforts to bring a YMCA to our community, a project that is getting bigger every day. I am looking forward to doing my best to make this happen for Stanwood and Camano Island.”
