The Philanthropist Breakfast

The Stanwood Camano Area Foundation's host its annual funds raiser to honor local philanthropy. We are sincerely grateful to everyone in our community who attends and contributes. Because of your generous financial support, the Foundation is able to administer its scholarships and grants programs in the greater Stanwood-Camano Island region.

Passionate, Powerful, Inspirational - words that describe the 2012 Philanthropists Breakfast hosted at the Floyd Norgaard Hall on February 24.  Local philanthropists are honored for their passionate support of community causes, powerful impacts, and inspirational examples for us all.

The 2012 honorees are:

  • Vivian Henderson - championed causes associated with farming and farmers in this area for many years. She is the co-founder of Harvest Jubilee, served on the steering committee for the formation of Slow Food Port Susan, and has been vice president for the first 1 ½ years of the Port Susan chapter.
  • Camano Island Builders Association - is a dedicated group of individuals who have donated their time, talents and treasures to our community. In 2010, members took a full week off from their own projects and daily responsibilities to help build the Rotary Adventure Playground. Last fall, Stanwood-Camano Christmas House coordinators needed help renovating a dilapidated building.
  • Don Herson - started a Firewood Ministry on his own—just to make a difference in the lives of single-women families from our community who couldn’t afford to keep their homes heated.
  • Dr. Jimmy Grierson - Inspired by the vision of establishing a free medical walk-in clinic in Stanwood, he organized a dedicated group of local leaders who served as the planning committee. Dr. Grierson’s dedication paid off in the creation of what is now known as Safe Harbor Free Clinic.
