Working Together for a YMCA
Earlier this year, our community's only regulation-sized pool closed, leaving our children, swim teams, seniors, and many others without adequate swim facilities. A dedicated group of community leaders has been working hard since then on a potential YMCA for our community.
The first major step was to survey the community at large to determine if there is enough support for a YMCA. A market research firm was hired, and random survey calls were made between September 14 and September 29. An online survey was also available between September 20 and September 29.
POSITIVE SURVEY RESULTS:
- The results are in and they are very positive!
- Triangle 2 Research, the firm commissioned to conduct the survey, reported that the results are among the most positive that they have seen.
- 54% of telephone respondents and 83% of online respondents indicated they would be "Highly Likely" to join a YMCA in Stanwood-Camano.
- As a result, the YMCA of Snohomish County has
officially sanctioned the Stanwood-Camano YMCA effort, and has invited
the local organizing committee to join the Y's facilities planning
process.
YMCA OF SNOHOMISH COUNTY RESPONDS:
- The survey results have been presented to the YMCA of Snohomish County Board of Trustees.
- YMCA President/CEO Scott Washburn reports that, ". . . by unanimous consent, the Board approved a resolution acknowledging your outstanding volunteer efforts and inviting you to participate in our Snohomish County YMCA capital planning process in an official capacity."
NEXT STEPS:
- The next steps will be to determine if the necessary funds can be raised within the Stanwood Camano Island Communities.
- "We are excited about the survey results for the citizens of Stanwood and Camano Island. Due to the large, multi-year fundraising campaign, our next step is to ensure that we can fundraise the necessary dollars to build a YMCA." stated Washburn.
